New Life in Mid-Century Modern Gem in O'Connor
Renovation
We tackled a unique project at 8 Nardoo Crescent, O’Connor. The original home, designed by the renowned mid-century architect Neville Gruzman with Glenn Murcutt as his draftsman, boasted an impressive pedigree. However, time and construction issues had taken their toll, the results were defects in the roof and inconsistencies in the design.
Client Goals:
- Open Up the Living Space: Enhance the functionality and flow of the living and dining room area.
- Embrace Natural Light: Bring in more natural light to create a brighter and more inviting atmosphere.
- Preserve the Mid-Century Legacy: Respect the home’s original design and character.
Our Approach:
Understanding the home’s historical significance, we collaborated with Architect Republic. Together, we devised solutions to address structural issues and design inconsistencies while staying true to Gruzman’s vision.
Key Achievements:
- Open & Functional Living Area: The redesigned living and dining space provides a more open and functional layout for the family.
- Enhanced Light Flow: Strategic improvements brought in more natural light, transforming the atmosphere.
- Mid-Century Integrity Maintained: Careful attention was paid to seamlessly integrate new elements with the existing mid-century features, like the jarrah hardwood floors and shiplap paneling.
The result is a stunning renovation that celebrates the home’s heritage while meeting the needs of a modern family. Another satisfied customer joins the growing list of CJC Constructions’ success stories.

Happy Results, Happy Clients
We’re really pleased with the finished product, which has modernised our house but retained many of the original design features that we loved. Chris and his team did a great job of integrating the old and new parts of the house.
